Los Angeles is instituting their new program to crack down on DUIs. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign in LA is creating several DUI check points to catch DUI drivers in the act. This campaign has several police agencies in the area working together to set up the DUI check points.
A check point is an area of local highway in which the police force is conducting brief stops to see if any of the drivers are DUI. It does not matter if you were driving perfectly everyone must stop and if the police officer suspect that the driver may have been drinking they can detain the driver longer to conduct and investigation. Jessica Simpson’s father was even cited for a DUI from a check point in the Sherman Oaks area this August. Check points do not care how famous you are, if you are DUI at a check point they will stop you and they will arrest you.
Several states including Arizona conduct regular DUI check points in an attempt to catch people who are DUI. These check points are more prominent during long holiday weekend such as Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, and Memorial Day because people are usually vacationing and engage in drink on those vacations. However, most police department will announce when the check points are taking place, but will not give out the location. So it would be a good idea to find out when they are being conducted and avoid driving all together.
